There is no gate, no lock, no bolt that you can set upon the freedom of my mind.
— Virginia Woolf, A Room of One's Own

These are portraits of creative women, depicted in the space where they create, along with their own art objects and talismans. They are not strangers to me; they are my muses, my colleagues and friends. Their stature and material references a rich history of seated portrait paintings, often transcribed through a male gaze. I want these subjects to see me as I them; proud of their creative achievements, colorful, intimate, and inspiring. I seek their approval while also putting them on a pedestal.
